Things to know about me as an accountant.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Accounting from the University of Maine at Augusta. I successfully completed the 3 part Enrolled Agent exams on the first attempt and received my certification from the Internal Revenue Service. I am in the process of filing for e-file services; which, means that I will only be able to file paper returns until this process is complete.

I volunteered at the Calais, Maine VITA site to offer free tax services to low income qualifiers for 2008. This was an excellent service for low income individuals with simple tax situations. The site served the Eastern Washington County areas and helped many people meet their filing requirements.

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Department of the United States Government responsible for management of the tax code. Their website offers information for understanding taxpayer rights and resources. Through this link you may find information on most tax related items and forms for filing.

Enrolled Agent (EA) One of three credentialled professionals authorized by the IRS to represent clients in front of the IRS. EAs have demonstrated special competence in understanding taxes by completing the Special Enrollement Examination which covers: Part 1 - Individual, Part 2 - Business, and Part 3 - Representation, Practice, and Procedures. EAs also apply for enrollment with the IRS and undergo a background check. As an enrolled agent, my clients can have the assurance that their tax professional stays up to date and adheres to ethical standards.

National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) The NATP is a group of tax professionals offering resources for understanding what tax advice is available and how to decide what is best for you. As a member of the NATP, I am able to access the professional resources to stay better informed and offer greater assistance to my clients.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site This is a volunteer supported tax preparation service sponsored and supported by the IRS to provide tax preparation for qualifying low income filers. In the Calais, Maine area call 454-3200 for details. As a VITA volunteer, I enjoy the opportunity to support the people in the community able to take advantage of this service.
